Las primeras impresiones en la península ibérica, del último cuarto del siglo XV, marcan el tránsito del códice manuscrito a la era tipográfica. Se observa la fusión de técnicas, con grabados e iniciales que evocan la tradición medieval, mientras la nueva tecnología difunde saberes y formas visuales.
