Plate 71 — Códice Telleriano Remensis
Artista: Anónimo tlacuilo (Códice Telleriano-Remensis)
Siglo XVI · México
Colección: Códice Telleriano-Remensis
This plate from the Codex Telleriano-Remensis, created by an anonymous tlacuilo in the 16th century, presents rich calendrical and religious iconography. On the left side, a prominent anthropomorphic figure, adorned with an elaborate feathered headdress, dominates the composition, possibly representing a deity. To the right, a grid displays a series of head and animal glyphs, interpreted as part of a ritual or divinatory calendar, with handwritten Spanish annotations that evidence its colonial context. The style, characteristic of post-Conquest Mexica codices, combines indigenous pictorial tradition with European influence in its format and glosses.
