Plate 70 — Códice Telleriano Remensis
Artista: Anónimo tlacuilo (Códice Telleriano-Remensis)
Siglo XVI · México
Colección: Códice Telleriano-Remensis
This Plate 70 from the Codex Telleriano-Remensis depicts a deity adorned with a sumptuous feathered headdress and ornaments, flanked by calendrical glyphs at the top. The work, executed by an anonymous 16th-century tlacuilo, combines rich Mesoamerican pictorial tradition with alphabetic annotations in Spanish, reflecting the cultural syncretism of the Viceroyalty. Flat colors and strong outlines are characteristic of these colonial manuscripts, which served to preserve and, at times, interpret pre-Hispanic beliefs for evangelizers.
