Description

The Inca empire deployed a sophisticated administrative and ritual visual language that endured in Andean memory. From the fifteenth century until conquest, Cusco radiated an iconography of power through textiles, ceramics, and architecture. Quipus recorded the world through knots; the khipu continued speaking when European writing arrived.
