Description
The Spanish-American War of 1898 in images: photographs, press engravings, and illustrations documenting the conflict that ended four centuries of Spanish presence in Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. The illustrations from the North American press (Harper's Weekly, Leslie's Illustrated) that precipitated American intervention, portraits of the generals from both sides, views of the battlefields and camps, and the first photographic documents of a colonial conflict. '98 as a visual event: the first medially constructed war in history.
