Description

Frans Post (1612-1680) was the first European painter to systematically portray the Brazilian landscape. A member of the Dutch expedition of Johan Maurits of Nassau, his oils and engravings document the fauna, flora and sugar mills of colonial Pernambuco in an unmistakable tropical light.
