Gabriela Mistral (1889-1957), Pseudonym von Lucila Godoy Alcayaga, war Pädagogin, Diplomatin und Dichterin. 1945 gewann sie als erste lateinamerikanische Autorin den Literaturnobelpreis. In Vicuña, Chile, geboren, entwickelte Mistral früh ein Interesse an Poesie und Literatur.
