Gabriela Mistral (1889-1957), Pseudonym von Lucila Godoy Alcayaga, war eine Pädagogin, Diplomatin und Dichterin. 1945 erhielt sie als erste lateinamerikanische Autorin den Nobelpreis für Literatur. In Vicuña, Chile, geboren, entwickelte Mistral früh ein Interesse für Poesie und Literatur.
